Nikki Kornegay
Reflexology and Reiki are the two holistic healing modalities I work with, and they are both wonderful complements to traditional wellness practices. These modalities take us into a space of deep relaxation, bringing the parasympathetic nervous system online, and gently moving us out of fight-or-flight. It has been well documented that chronic stress and the excess cortisol that stress produces are some of the primary causes of inflammation and dis-ease in our bodies, and I have cultivated a space for my clients to feel safe to put it all down and to take some time to receive and just be. I have a firm belief that to find true healing we need spaces where we can turn off the demands of daily life, fill our cups, and take a break from the constant demands of action that fuel our world today.
Following is a brief explanation of my work: Reflexology is a natural, tactile alternative wellness therapy that works with precise reflex points on the feet, hands, face, and ears that represent a microcosm of the body, mirroring all organs, organ systems, glands, and other structures. Special palpation techniques are used that work on these precise points to bring a state of harmony and balance to clients receiving the work.
Reflexologists do not diagnose, treat, nor do we isolate organs or organ systems that are problematic – we work holistically with our clients incorporating body, mind, and spirit to facilitate healing from within. I say that reflexology is comparable to receiving a gentle full body massage (but you get to keep your clothes on) with many clients finding it more relaxing than a massage. Reflexology can help with plantar fasciitis, sciatica, digestive issues, migraines, chronic musculoskeletal pain, and much more.
Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is a gentle, holistic wellness technique through which the practitioner channels universal life force energy, the energy that radiates through all of creation, to clear energetic blockages and connect clients with their own healing energy on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual planes. Reiki is delivered through light touch, the hovering of hands, or from a distance to bring balance, relaxation, and healing to the recipients. I like to think of Reiki as “tangible prayer”, sending the best of intentions toward one’s whole self. It is complementary to medical and mental health treatments, as well as other healing modalities.
These modalities are a wonderful way to implement personal wellness into one’s life, and can assist with other conditions such as anxiety, fatigue, depression, stress, insomnia, stuck emotions, burnout, and the healing of emotional wounds.
